PREPARING A "GO KIT"

HOW? If you or your organization are told to "Evacuate" and leave your location due to the occurrence of an event or even the possibility of an impending event happening, do you have a "Go Kit"?

WHO? An order or recommendation to "Evacuate" could come from one or more local, state or federal agencies empowered to provide this notice at time of disaster, may compel you to listen.

WHY? What would you and your employees do if you did not have a "Go Kit" for them to use once they left your primary facility at the time of a disaster occurrence? Even if your organization did not believe that it should be responsible for having such provisions available, it would make a great deal of sense to have a small supply of items readily available for transportation off-site.

WHAT? Government officials recommend that a "Go Kit" contain the following items:

Copies of important documents, such as your business recovery plan
Information concerning key contacts and meeting places for your team
A small regional map and contact information for the local authorities
Key contact information related to other locations in your organization
Extra sets of keys and access codes to return to your facility
Cash or credit cards that may be needed to obtain supplies
Bottled water and non-perishable food
Flashlight, an Emergency Radio and extra batteries
Basic First Aid kit and medication to meet the general needs of your team
Sturdy comfortable shoes, clothing, and a Mylar blanket
